Cahi Estate is nestled in Kericho County, the Great Rift Valley region of south-west Kenya. Sounds pretty epic, right? A quick Google search of the landscape will have you swooning, followed by fumbling around for your passport to book flights. It's seriously breathtaking!
While the country produces an abundance of speciality coffee, it is famous for large tea estates and world renowned tea production. Coffee loves to grow in similar conditions to tea, and Kericho County boasts high altitudes and highly fertile volcanic soils. This contributes to a delightful acidity and the rich cocoa note inherent in this coffee.
Hillary Bett is the farmer of this very special coffee, a local father of four from the region of Fort Ternan. The farm is eight hectares in size with half dedicated to coffee farming and the other half used to grow maize, beans and sugarcane, as well as farming cattle for dairy production. All the post-harvest processing is carried out at the estate.
